Stupid Property Repairs #7

It is amazing how people can use different products to seal up openings or glue items together. Like some of these excellent repairs from a North Minneapolis foreclosure:

First you have the canned expanding foam to plug some holes (no doubt to keep the mice out):

Then you have the masking tape to cover a hole in the ceiling as you go downstairs:

Last but not least, the ever reliable and multiple use Duct Tape is used when you just don’t have any metal screws (to hold in the window):

Are you searching for investment properties on your own and running into similar properties?

I have seen a number of these sorts of repairs on homes for sale as well. Just crazy what some people will do to save a buck sometimes!

I think that many people automatically conclude that it is the homeowner that is making these “repairs”. Have you considered that these “repairs” may well have been made by renters that are unable to get the SlumLord homeowner to respond to their pleas for assistance? They may have spent their last grocery dollar on that roll of duct tape or spray foam.

I was showing this home a couple days ago.  The listing said “just needs a little TLC”.  Real Estate agents are the epitome of optimists and understatements!  This house was a wreck inside and out.  Then I went around back and found this little gem.  It didn’t appear that there was previously a room or part of the home back [...]

Wow.  My last stupid property repairs post was in January.  I am not sure if I have become oblivious to stupid repairs or maybe I am just looking at nicer houses.  Well, nevertheless, I found one in my own backyard about 3 weeks ago and the pictures have been burning a hole in my phone.  [...]

Ahhh.  Lucky number 13.
I always wonder why anyone buys a house that has fundamental problems like crumbling foundations or less than legal headroom in the 2nd floor.  I see this all the time.  Then to make matters worse, I have no idea why they will then spend a considerable amount of money cosmetically renovating this [...]

I have been collecting some interesting pictures over the last 30 days.  I haven’t found one house that was completely stupid, but a one or two in several houses.  Here we go:

Interesting lack of plumbing.
Who gets to empty this?

Mom!  Have you seen my favorite jeans?
Son, they are on the couch downstairs.

Just pour the water off [...]

My previous posts have mostly been about one house that was particularly stupid.  I have not seen one house that takes the entire cake, lately.  Consequently, it has been a while since I posted any new pictures.  So here is a montage from Saint Paul Homes to Apple Valley Townhomes.

They didn't want to change the [...]
