The city of Saint Paul is debating an ordinance that would require rental property owners to attend a class every 2 years. This class would be required in order to obtain or renew a rental license in St. Paul. Read more about it at the Saint Paul Real Estate Blog.

More classes! Oh no! I am amazed at the various restrictions put in place on rental property owners here in Minnesota.
While this is probably not entirely worthless it does not recognize that tenants have many rights landlords do not in terms of defending an eviction on a basis other than lack of rent payment. So even if a landlord learns to recognize criminal activity etc to prove it such that an eviction could occur is another matter.
How about a class to prospective parents. Seems like we have our priorities mixed up if we have to teach people how to own rentals units but not raise kids.
Just my humble opinion.
After sitting in a St. Paul hearing about a year and half ago I am not surprised by this move. I was there trying to stop the City from tearing down a property. We lost and the building is gone and so is the City’s tax revenue. Their concern at that time was an absentee landlord. I guess they are realizing tearing everything down over there doesn’t help with the deficit.
